Jump starting a car

Use a Jump Box or a car with a working battery. If you’re using a car, park it near where the car that needs a jump is parked.

1. Locate the positive and negative terminals on both vehicles. Open the hoods of both cars and find the positive and negative terminals. Some vehicles have their batteries accessible, while others have battery terminals. A general idea is a red “+” for positive and a black “-” for negative.
2. Now that you have identified the positive and negative terminals, connect the booster cables:
   • First, attach a RED clamp to the positive terminal (+) on the DEAD battery.
   • Next, attach the RED clamp from the other end of the cables to the positive terminal (+) on the BOOSTER battery.
   • Then, attach the BLACK clamp to the negative terminal (–) on the BOOSTER battery.
   • Lastly, attach the BLACK clamp to the negative terminal on the car’s engine with the DEAD battery. Most models have a grounding bolt marked with a (–) placed solely for this purpose.
